Society backs fundraiser for historic preservation
Big Announcement!
ThisWeek Community Newspapers
The German Village Society's board of trustees has given the nod to a gala that will raise funds for historic preservation.
Darci Congrove, a member of the board, said she wanted to host the event because the society lacks money for robust historic-preservation activities.
Her request was endorsed at the monthly board meeting April 4.
The gala, replete with food, live entertainment, silent auction and a hat contest, is slated for 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at the German Village Guest House, a bed-and-breakfast on Jaeger Street owned by Congrove and her husband, John Pribble.
The plan is to sell tickets for $50 each with the goal of having 200 guests, giving the society $10,000 in targeted funds.
Examples of historic-preservation projects to be considered include a plan to create signage in the historic district, printed and online educational materials, management of GVS archives and related activities.
The funds will not be available for use in the society's general operating budget or for GVS salaries.
Congrove said the society would have no out-of-pocket costs, save for some technical costs associated with an online payment system through the GVS website.
She said she has secured in-kind sponsors for all rentals — tents, tables, chairs and such — as well as a financial sponsor for the hat contest. Additionally, table sponsors will be sought for the event.
She said her hope is to hold the fundraiser annually.
