German Village
German Village is a pedestrian and bike friendly community with parks, ponds, birding, bike paths, children’s play area and public gardens, located just one minute south of downtown Columbus.
German Village is Columbus’ premiere neighborhood -- 233 acres of preserved and protected history -- and the nation’s largest privately funded place listed on the National Historic Register by the National Park Service. Once a working class neighborhood built by German brewery workers, carpenters, brick and stone masons, the Queen Anne, Italianate and Dutch Double homes, stores and restaurants have been lovingly and stunningly restored.
The German Village Guest House and Whittier Suites are only a few short blocks away from the best that Columbus has to offer. Within a short stroll are unique and popular local restaurants, shops, galleries and parks for playing, watching plays and bird watching! Annual events such as the Haus und Garten Tour, Oktoberfest, and Village Lights draw thousands of tourists to Village attractions.
Within five to ten minutes drive are Downtown Columbus, the Grange Insurance Audubon Center and Metro Park, Greenlawn Cemetery and Arboretum, the Short North arts & entertainment district, the Brewery district, the Arena district, Columbus Blue Jackets Hockey, and the Ohio State University.
